Othello Van Calbert is the CEO and Founder of Othello Business Solution, a management consultant firm specialize in 

Othello started attending business meetings and running 50 percent of his family owned businesses in the North Lawndale community at the age of 13 which they were in business for over thirty years.

His mother wasn’t too excited about him working the business and attending high school at the same time. However, Othello saw it as an opportunity to be around his father which in return equipped him with valuable business skills. Their businesses were (a liqueur and grocery store, a fast food restaurant, a Ice Cream shop, and a Salon with his aunt) which involved Opening-closing, hiring and layoff, inventory up keep, daily balance sheet review, and customer service,
etc.,. At age of 26 they had to close three of the businesses due to the City’s plans to reconstruct their location. Fortunately his father therefore reinvested into serveral real estates with the proceeds.
Since then, following in his mother’s foot steps, Othello attended DeVry in Chicago and earned first an Associate and then (leave out!!!) a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineer Technology. Throughout his education, Othello interests was to re-enter back into the business arena somehow.
Othello ran a Martial Arts franchise business for 3 years. Thereafter, along with working part time with businesses and entreprenuers as a business solution consultant with LegalShield for 12 years, Othello worked as an Electronic Test Technician for 11 years at Tricor Systems Inc; a Quality Control Engineer for 5 years with Mitsubishi Electric Automation; and 4 years as a Data Acquisition Analyst Engineer and Project Assistance manager at Argonne National Laboratory.
During his tenure with Mitsubishi, projects involved working with (Excel, Word, and Powerpoint) to problem solving solutions, developing data to project trends of root causes and present weekly presentations to Regional Management which contributed to a decline in production cost and an increased in profits shares. At
Argonne, he worked with (Database software access and Excel Spreadsheets) to design acquisition prototypes devices that collected sample data for sciencfic research and development projects which successfully contributed to research objectives. Throughout those years, Othello maintained his family’s real estate budget projections via.
Since the closing of their businesses, Othello mission was to empower Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs within every community especially underserved which ultimately means helping them to succeed in their businesses and increasing profit margins within their competitive market.
With his past experiences running businesses and a passion for research and development, solving problems, and stragetic planning, Othello combined his business expertist with his engineering experience and founded Othello Business Solutions. A Data Analytics Management consultant firm which he is now working with small business owners (In-Home Care, Day Cares, and Education.. est.) in the community to improve their over all business performance by identifying any root causes (via Excel, R, MS BI, and SQL) and create an innovative solution to grow their business model in todays competitive market. Othello Business Solutions is not just in the private sector either – many firms work with public sector organisations to help develop business services and, where necessary, reduce costs and return on the small business owner’s investments.
In addition, Othello have become a member of North Lawndale Chamber since 2013 and in 2017 became a volunteer with Score of Chicago since December 2017 to further his leadership business expertise which he has already begun to offer more resources to individuals thinking about starting to new and existing small businesses within and around the Chicago’s communities.
